Mortgage approvals rise sharply in April

Some €240 million in mortgages was approved in April 2013, of which €226 million was for house purchase.

Mortgage approvals grew by 11.1% year-on-year and by 22.5% month-on-month. Re-mortgage/top-up approvals grew by 16.4% year-on-year due to a sharp rise in the average mortgage value.

Average mortgage approval value The average mortgage approval value was €167,418 in April 2013, up 2.2% on the average value in April 2012.
The average mortgage for house purchase fell by 0.9% year-on-year to €172,792. The average re-mortgage/top-up
mortgage value increased by 37.8% year-on-year to €111,136. While the data is volatile due to the low transactions volumes, the increase relects an upward trend in re-mortgage/top-up values.
